The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is located West of London City airport a distance of 5 miles that would take around 20 minutes by taxi via the A1011. It is located to the east of the City of London and north of the River Thames it has a population of 256,000 according to 2011 statistics.
Located in the heart of East End London it takes its name from the hamlets that used to surround the Tower of London. It has gradually become one of the most diverse boroughs in London with large number of migrants from a variety of backgrounds and it has one of the largest Bangladeshi communities in the country. The prosperity of the areas is varied with some areas of very low income and contrasted by the high earners working in the financial district of Canary Wharf. The choice of cultural attractions and leisure persuits is diverse and exciting and range from the famous markets of Brick Lane, Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields, The Tower of London, Victoria Park and the Museum of London Docklands.
There are a large number of art galleries and museums such as the Design Museum, V & A Museum of Childhood, Degree Art, Nettie Horn Gallery and The Approach Gallery. The Canary Wharf Complex within Docklands has a group of some of the tallest buildings in Europe with the most well known of these being One Canada Square, HSBC Tower, Citigroup Centres and One Churchill Place.
